Tinubu Seeks Senate’s Approval To Dismiss Three Suspended RECs

President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate’s approval to remove three suspended Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto, Adamawa, and Abia states.

The affected RECs are:

Ike Uzochukwu (Abia State)

Hudu Yunusa-Ari (Adamawa State)

Nura Ali (Sokoto State)

They were accused of misconduct during the 2023 general elections and had already been suspended by INEC before Tinubu assumed office.

In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during Wednesday’s plenary session, Tinubu explained the necessity of finalizing their dismissal.

“The Senate is invited to note that the three resident electoral commissioners have been suspended for misconduct since March 2022 before the advent of the current administration.”

The president urged the Senate to act swiftly on the request, emphasizing the importance of upholding electoral integrity.

This development follows ongoing scrutiny of electoral processes in Nigeria, with Tinubu’s administration pushing for reforms to strengthen the credibility of INEC.
