Tinubu, Gov Mourn Death Of 17 Almajiri Students In Zamfara Fire Incident

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Zamfara state Governor, Dauda Lawal have mourned the death of 17 students in a fire incident at Makarantar Mallam Ghali, an Al Majiral School in the state.

A devastating fire at an Islamic school in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State, has claimed the lives of at least 17 Almajiri students and left 16 others injured.

The fire broke out late Tuesday night while the students were asleep, burning for nearly three hours before it was extinguished.

According to Abdulrasaq Bello Kaura, a resident who spoke to Channels TV, the fire was caused by stored sticks, locally known as kara, which ignited unexpectedly.

“It happened at Makaranta Mallam Ghali, inside their study hall. There were about 100 students in the house. After evacuating them, they thought no one was left inside. But when they returned after the fire, they saw hands and legs—burnt beyond recognition,” Kaura said.

The 17 deceased students were buried on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

The Chairman of Kaura-Namoda Local Government, Comrade Mannir Muazu Haidara, confirmed the tragic incident.
