Ex-JAMB Employee Sentenced To Five Years In Prison For N10m Fraud In Ibadan

A former staff member of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Olayiwola Oguntade, has been convicted and sentenced to five years in prison by the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan over a N10 million fraud case.

Oguntade was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on October 13, 2020, on a three-count charge of forgery, advance fee fraud, and obtaining money by false pretence.

Despite pleading “not guilty,” his trial lasted over four years.

According to a statement by the EFCC on its X handle, Justice Bayo Taiwo ruled on January 28, 2025, that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

He sentenced Oguntade to five years in prison without an option of a fine.

The case stemmed from fraudulent activities in 2010, where Oguntade allegedly obtained N10 million from Polybadan Microfinance Bank using forged documents purportedly issued by JAMB.

The EFCC presented 10 witnesses and several incriminating documents during the trial.

Justice Taiwo’s verdict brings an end to the lengthy legal battle, reinforcing the EFCC’s stance on financial crimes and forgery.
