The All Progressives Congress (APC) has gained significant political ground in Edo State as Hon. Edosa Enowoghomenma, Chairman of Ovia South West Local Government Area, along with eight elected councillors, including the Leader of the House, Hon. Nosakhare Edobor, formally defected to the ruling party.
Similarly, Hon. Dickson Ahonsi, Chairman of Owan West Local Government Area, and five councillors have also switched allegiance to the APC amid ongoing tensions between local councils and Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.
Speaking on their defection, Ahonsi lauded the developmental strides of Governor Okpebholo, particularly his swift appointments and infrastructure projects, as key factors influencing their decision. “The projects he has embarked upon show clearly that Edo is in safe hands,” he said.

The defectors from Ovia South West were received by APC chairman Emmanuel Ogbomo, who assured them of equal treatment within the party and support in their offices.
“In the APC, everybody is treated equally, and you will not regret your decision,” Ogbomo said.
Enowoghomenma emphasized their commitment to aligning with Governor Okpebholo and Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, describing their move as a strategy to foster local development. “It will do our people no good if we do not work in tandem with the state leadership,” he noted.
Leader of the Ovia South West House, Hon. Edobor, echoed similar sentiments, stating that their decision was driven by the interest of their constituents.

“We are here today to bring about a renewed hope and ensure development for our people,” he affirmed.
The APC state secretary, Engr. Lawrence Okah, welcomed the new members, emphasizing the party’s openness to further defections. “Use the broom to mobilize others to join the APC,” he urged.
With these defections, the APC continues to consolidate its influence in Edo State, signaling a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
