Borno State Bans Street Hawking, Illegal Activities In Maiduguri

The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has announced a ban on street hawking and other unauthorized activities in Maiduguri metropolis.

In a statement issued on Friday, the General Manager of BSUPDB, Mr. Limán Mustapha, stated that the directive aligns with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002.

The ban targets street hawking, tricycle operations, and generator repair activities in key areas such as the Post Office and Monday Market.

The prohibition also extends to activities obstructing pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts; roadside sales of engine oil; dumping of building materials; mixing cement on roads; and constructing boreholes by roadsides.

Affected individuals have been ordered to vacate the sites immediately, with Mr. Mustapha warning that violators will face arrest and prosecution.

The move aims to ensure a clean, safe, and well-organized urban environment across Maiduguri and other parts of the state.

Residents and business owners are urged to comply with the directive to avoid legal consequences.
