Court Dismisses PDP’s Suit Against Aiyedatiwa, Deputy’s Qualifications

The Federal High Court in Akure, Ondo State, has dismissed a case challenging the qualifications of Ondo State’s governorship candidates, Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Olayide Adelami, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).  

The suit was brought by Agboola Ajayi, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 16 election, through his counsel, M. Ndoka (SAN).

Ajayi alleged discrepancies in the deputy governor’s names, arguing this disqualified both candidates.  

However, Justice Toyin Bolaji Adegoke ruled that the PDP lacked the legal standing to challenge APC’s candidates, as Ajayi was not a participant in the APC primaries.

Additionally, the court found that the suit was filed outside the 14-day window stipulated by the Electoral Act.  

The court also determined that the case, involving allegations of forgery, required criminal evidence, which was beyond its jurisdiction in this matter. 

Justice Adegoke resolved all issues in favor of the APC candidates and dismissed the case.  

This decision further cements Aiyedatiwa and Adelami’s candidacy as the elected leaders of Ondo State.
