The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) for non-academic staff of federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, covering the eight-month period from January to August 2026.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the release, describing it as part of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare, strengthen industrial harmony and ensure the effective delivery of quality education across the country.
According to Alausa, the payment reflects the government’s recognition of the critical role played by non-academic personnel in maintaining institutional stability and supporting the effective functioning of Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
He said the welfare, motivation and commitment of both academic and non-academic staff remained essential to developing the country’s human capital and improving educational outcomes.
The minister added that the release was part of the government’s efforts to address legitimate welfare concerns, promote cordial relations with university-based unions and minimise disruptions to academic activities.
The announcement comes days after the commencement of payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff on Monday, in what the ministry described as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to meeting its obligations to personnel across the tertiary education sector.
Alausa said the payments reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to strengthen institutions responsible for producing the skilled workforce needed to drive Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.
He assured stakeholders that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue engaging relevant unions, heads of institutions and other stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues, encourage mutual understanding and sustain a stable and productive academic environment.
The minister also commended academic and non-academic staff, institutional heads, unions and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and continued cooperation with the Federal Government.
He reiterated that the ministry would sustain policies and initiatives aimed at prioritising staff welfare, institutional stability, human capital development and improved learning outcomes.
In a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its obligations to education sector workers, addressing outstanding welfare issues and implementing reforms under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The ministry said the measures were intended to strengthen Nigeria’s education system and advance the country’s human capital development objectives.
