The Federal Government is set to launch a national data platform aimed at providing reliable information on Nigeria’s creative economy and tourism sector, the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, Esq., has announced.
Musawa disclosed this in a social media post on Sunday, October 11, saying the platform, known as D30, would be launched on Tuesday, October 13, to provide a shared and reliable picture of activities across the sectors, identify key players and determine what they need to grow.
According to the minister, Nigeria’s creative economy and tourism industry are vibrant, with Nigerians across the country actively involved in filmmaking, music, fashion, visual arts, hotel operations, tour services and other tourism-related businesses.
However, she said the sector had lacked a dependable database showing where these activities take place, who is driving them and what resources are required to expand their operations.
“What the sector has lacked is evidence: a shared, reliable picture of where that activity is, who is doing it, and what it needs to grow,” Musawa stated.
The minister described the planned launch as a step towards addressing the information gap, adding that the D30 platform would serve as a national data platform for Nigeria’s creative economy and tourism.
The initiative comes amid growing recognition of the economic potential of Nigeria’s creative industries and tourism assets, which span the country’s diverse cultural heritage, entertainment industry, hospitality businesses and visitor attractions.
A reliable national database could help provide policymakers, investors and industry operators with a clearer understanding of the sector’s geographical spread, existing opportunities and development needs.
