Lagos, Kano and Kaduna have emerged as the states with the highest number of registered voters ahead of the 2027 general election, according to figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja that Nigeria’s national voter register has risen to 110 million following three phases of the commission’s voter registration exercise.
Amupitan said the figure reinforces Nigeria’s position as Africa’s largest democracy.
“The national register of voters now stands at 110 million, making Nigeria the largest democracy in Africa,” he said.
Lagos tops the register with 7,488,633 voters, followed by Kano with 6,570,276 and Kaduna with 4,662,640.
Katsina ranks fourth with 3,876,051 registered voters, while Rivers follows with 3,736,434.
Oyo has 3,588,111 voters, Delta 3,525,988, Benue 3,057,225 and Ogun 3,037,981.
Bauchi completes the top 10 with 3,012,547 registered voters.
The figures are expected to shape campaign strategies and electoral calculations as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general election.
With Lagos, Kano and Kaduna alone accounting for more than 18 million registered voters, the three states are likely to remain major battlegrounds in the race for the presidency and other elective offices.
