Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has sued the Sokoto State Government over its alleged failure to release the report of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry that investigated his administration from 2015 to 2023.
Tambuwal, through his counsel, U.O. Sule, SAN, filed the suit, marked SS/133/2026, before Justice Mohammed Mohammed of the Sokoto State High Court 6.
The defendants are Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry.
The suit followed what Tambuwal described as the refusal or failure of the state government and the commission to furnish him with a copy of the report after the inquiry concluded its proceedings.
The commission, chaired by a former Chief Judge of Gombe State, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, was constituted to investigate activities, transactions and other matters connected to Tambuwal’s eight-year tenure as governor.
Tambuwal is asking the court to compel the defendants to release the report, arguing that he is entitled to know the findings and conclusions reached by the panel.
The legal action places the state government under judicial scrutiny over its handling of the inquiry report and whether the former governor should be granted access to the findings.
The court has fixed November 9, 2026, for judgment in the suit.
