- APC, PDP petitions displayed at Osogbo secretariat to commence formal process
The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has commenced formal proceedings over challenges to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election after displaying petitions filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its secretariat in Osogbo on Monday.
The move begins the legal process arising from the August 15 governorship election, which saw Adeleke declared winner and returned for another term in office.
The petitions were displayed on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat, paving the way for the service of legal processes on the parties involved and the commencement of further proceedings.
The Secretary of the Tribunal, Pefe Belemore, had earlier confirmed that petitions challenging the election outcome were filed and that the required notices would be displayed before noon on Monday.
Officials of the tribunal secretariat were present as proceedings opened, marking the beginning of preparations for the hearing of the election disputes.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
The petition lists Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.
The Peoples Democratic Party also filed a separate petition marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026 through Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola.
The PDP petition names Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party as respondents.
The two petitions will now proceed through the tribunal’s statutory process, with the respondents expected to file responses before the commencement of substantive proceedings.
The Osun governorship election dispute joins other post-election legal contests in Nigeria, where election petition tribunals provide the first judicial platform for parties seeking to challenge declared electoral outcomes.
