Carrick Explains Rashford Substitution In Everton Draw

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has explained that Marcus Rashford was substituted during Sunday’s 2-2 Premier League draw against Everton after the England forward reported feeling discomfort during the second half.

Rashford, who delivered an energetic performance throughout the encounter, was withdrawn in the 70th minute as United managed a share of the points in a tightly contested league fixture.

Carrick said the decision was made as a precaution after the forward indicated that he was experiencing a physical issue, while also praising his overall contribution to the match.

“Yeah, he was feeling a bit of something,” Carrick said when asked about the substitution.

The United manager added that Rashford had been impressive since returning to action and remained a major attacking threat against Everton.

“He’s done very well. As I said during the week, he’s done ever so well since he came back. I thought he looked really sharp again today and dangerous,” Carrick stated.

Carrick noted that although Rashford did not convert his chances, the forward created problems for Everton’s defence throughout the match.

“That final little moment didn’t quite drop for him, but nevertheless, I thought he created really good opportunities, and there was a big threat throughout the game,” he added.

The draw extended Manchester United’s push for consistency in the Premier League, while Carrick will hope Rashford’s issue does not develop into a longer-term fitness concern as the club continues its campaign.
