At least 32 people have been confirmed dead after a magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck near Mindanao, the second-largest island in the Philippines.
Authorities said more than 100 people were injured, nearly two dozen remain missing, and about 10,000 residents were evacuated as rescue efforts continued across affected communities.
The hardest-hit areas included Sarangani province, where 17 deaths were recorded, and General Santos City, where at least 10 people were killed. Landslides, collapsed buildings and damaged infrastructure were reported across several provinces.
The powerful tremor triggered tsunami warnings in the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia and Australia, though some alerts were later lifted after only small waves were recorded.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the government had mobilised emergency response agencies, assuring residents that affected communities would receive support.
More than 130 aftershocks were recorded following the quake, raising concerns about further damage as rescue and recovery operations continue.
