Trump has urged Israel and Iran to stop exchanging attacks following a fresh escalation that saw both sides launch missile strikes over the weekend.
The renewed tensions began after Israel said it targeted Hezbollah positions in southern Beirut in response to rocket fire from the Iran-backed group. Hours later, Iran launched missile attacks, which the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described as the “beginning of a full week of continuous strikes.”
Reacting to the development, Trump called for an immediate end to the violence.
“Israel and Iran must immediately stop shooting,” he said, adding that both sides appeared to be moving toward a ceasefire agreement.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way.”
While Trump expressed optimism about a possible breakthrough, neither Israel nor Iran has confirmed that formal peace negotiations are underway.
The latest exchange marks the most serious test yet of the ceasefire reached in April following weeks of regional tensions.
