UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed To Visit Nigeria For Official Talks

Amina J. Mohammed, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, will begin a two-day official visit to Nigeria on Thursday, January 9, 2025.

The announcement was made by Oluseyi Soremekun, the National Information Officer at the United Nations Information Centre.  

During her visit, Mohammed will meet with President Bola Tinubu, senior Nigerian government officials, and leadership from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The discussions will center on critical regional issues, including stability and development in West Africa.  

Mohammed will be accompanied by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Simão, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall. 

She will also engage with the UN country team in Nigeria to assess current initiatives and explore future priorities.  

The visit highlights the ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and the UN to address key regional challenges and development goals.
