WAEC Introduces Resit Exams For WASSCE Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a groundbreaking initiative allowing candidates to retake their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as early as January and February 2025.  

This new resit program, named WASSCE PC1, enables students to improve their grades without waiting for the next exam session.

According to John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, students have until January 8, 2025, to register online or through accredited centers, with exams scheduled to run from January 24 to February 15, 2025.  

To support candidates, WAEC plans to expedite the release of chief examiners’ reports, offering insights into common errors and preparation tips. 

This initiative is also open to students whose results were canceled, provided they are not under a malpractice ban.  

Felix Oluwaseun Agbesanwa, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUS) in Ogun State, commended WAEC’s efforts, calling it a step in the right direction. He also suggested extending the registration deadline to accommodate more students.

“This initiative allows students to focus on specific subjects they need to improve, reducing the likelihood of a year-long delay in their academic progression,” Agbesanwa said. 

He expressed optimism that the policy would curb examination malpractice and encourage students to take academics more seriously.  

For now, exams will be held in regional capitals, with WAEC hoping to expand coverage in the future. The council remains committed to providing timely results to ensure candidates can meet the next admission cycle’s requirements.
