Tinubu Applauds NNPCL For Reviving Port Harcourt Refinery

President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for successfully resuming operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery, which began petroleum product loading on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.  

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu acknowledged former President Muhammadu Buhari’s foundational role in initiating the comprehensive rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries.  

The President also expressed appreciation to the African Export-Import Bank for financing the project and commended NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, for his leadership in overcoming challenges to achieve this milestone.  

With one refinery operational, Tinubu called on NNPCL to expedite the rehabilitation of the second Port Harcourt refinery, alongside the Warri and Kaduna refineries, to boost domestic production capacity and complement the output of private refineries.

The President emphasized his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape, particularly by advancing the gas sector and strengthening the nation’s energy security. He reiterated his goal of eliminating the paradox of Nigeria being a major crude oil producer unable to refine its resources for local consumption.

Aligned with the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” Tinubu highlighted the importance of integrity, accountability, and patience in rebuilding national infrastructure, urging all stakeholders to remain focused and trustworthy in their duties.  

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to achieving energy sufficiency, enhancing export capacity, and ensuring economic prosperity for all Nigerians.
