EFCC Asks Court To Dismiss Sanwo-Olu’s Suit, Calls Claims “Speculative”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged a Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, arguing that the governor’s claims of potential harassment and arrest are speculative.

In a counter-affidavit, the EFCC denied threatening or planning to arrest the governor, stating that no formal investigation or invitation has been issued. The anti-graft agency contends that Sanwo-Olu’s suit is premature and lacks merit.

Recall that the governor filed the suit seeking a declaration that any threat of investigation, arrest, or detention by the EFCC would be illegal. He also sought an injunction restraining the agency from taking such actions.

The EFCC, however, maintains that it has not taken any steps to infringe on the governor’s rights. The agency’s legal team argues that the governor’s claims are unfounded and based on mere speculation.

The court is scheduled to hear the case on November 26th, but there are indications that the governor’s legal team may withdraw the lawsuit.
