Former Lawmaker, Key PDP Leaders In Zamfara Defect To APC

In a significant political shift in Zamfara State, former House of Representatives member Kabiru Classic has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Citing ongoing internal issues within the PDP, Classic joins a wave of recent defections highlighting dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership.

The APC’s Zamfara chapter confirmed that Classic, who represented the Anka/Talata Mafara Federal Constituency from 2019 to 2023, was joined by 10 out of the 11 PDP Ward chairmen from Talata Mafara Local Government Area.

“This development reflects a growing trend among politicians disillusioned with the PDP’s internal structure,” stated Yusuf Idris, APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, as he welcomed Classic and other former PDP leaders into the APC.

The state APC Chairman, Tukur Danfulani, and Lawal Liman, leader of the Abdul’aziz Yari Political Organisation, also celebrated the move, underscoring the impact of Classic’s defection.

Idris noted that Classic’s shift to APC is part of a broader pattern, citing similar defections such as that of Sulaiman Abubakar-Gummi (Gummi/Bukkuyum Constituency), who recently exited the PDP over concerns about internal democracy.

This defection wave, according to APC officials, underscores a deepening rift within the PDP, suggesting that the APC may attract more political figures seeking stability and effective governance.
