Clark Calls For Investigation Into Alleged Oath Misuse By Former Rivers Speaker

Former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate the alleged misuse of oath by former Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, Martins Amawhule, and his colleague.

Clark expressed concerns over contradictory statements made under oath by Amawhule and others, regarding their political party affiliations. 

He believes these inconsistencies, coupled with recent court rulings, warrant a thorough investigation.

The elder statesman criticized recent judgments by Justice James Omotoso and the Court of Appeal, alleging that the rulings were obtained through fraudulent means. 

He argued that Amawhule and his colleagues concealed crucial information from the court, influencing the outcome of the cases.

Clark further pointed out that Amawhule and 26 other lawmakers defected from the PDP to the APC, violating constitutional provisions that mandate the loss of their seats upon such defection.

The PANDEF leader emphasized that judgments based on fraudulent information can lead to unjust outcomes and undermine the integrity of the judiciary. He urged the IGP to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action.

Clark also expressed concerns over the involvement of Justice Okorowo in halting INEC’s efforts to fill the vacated seats, prior to his promotion to the Court of Appeal.

The elder statesman concluded by condemning the Court of Appeal’s response to the Rivers State Governor’s appeal, calling the remarks against Governor Fubara unwarranted.
