Edo: Deputy Governor’s Office Sealed Off Amid Ongoing Tensions

The office of the Deputy Governor of Edo State, located on Osadebe Avenue in Benin City, has been sealed off by heavily armed police officers as of Sunday.

This particular office previously  was occupied by the state deputy governor outside the Government House was due to ongoing tensions between Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki.

On Sunday, the entrance gate was locked, with a police truck equipped with a machine gun and three officers stationed at the site. 

The matrix gathered that staff members were informed on Friday to resume work at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Agency (JOOPSA), while official vehicles from the deputy governor’s office, including the Press Crew bus, were moved to the office of the Head of Service within the Government House.

A staff member from the Deputy Governor’s office confirmed on Sunday, “You know we are civil servants. On Thursday, we were told to resume at JOOPSA, and that was where we also resumed on Friday, and we will do that again tomorrow (Monday).”
