Tinubu Directs Defence Minister, Military Chiefs To Relocate To Sokoto

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and military chiefs to relocate to Sokoto State to intensify efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in the North-west region.

The region has been plagued by rampant terrorism, with four of its seven states among the top five states with the highest number of kidnap incidents between July 2023 and June 2024.

According to the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, the federal government is committed to restoring peace and security in the region.

Matawalle stated that their presence in the North-west will oversee operations and ensure the defeat of notorious terrorist Bello Turji and his gang.

The minister expressed concern over the persistent threat posed by banditry and terrorism, emphasizing the need for urgent action to enable people to move freely.

He assured the people of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi states that the security forces will leave no stone unturned in flushing out the bandits.

Matawalle called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security forces, reiterating that the government’s top priority is the security and well-being of all Nigerians.
