Labour Party To Field Peter Obi Against Tinubu In 2027 Presidential Election

The Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed its decision to present former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its candidate in the 2027 general election, setting the stage for a rematch against President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, declared that the LP remains determined to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election.

“Tinubu is not just going to have it very easy in 2027. We are coming back with Peter Obi to show that we mean business,” Arabambi stated.

He also dismissed concerns over internal party conflicts, refuting claims of a leadership crisis.

He further criticized actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo’s recent resignation from the party, describing it as “good riddance to bad rubbish” and accusing him of working in favor of the APC.

Obi, who ran as the LP’s presidential candidate in 2023, finished third behind President Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

With this announcement, the LP is making an early push to position itself as a formidable opposition in the 2027 elections.
