PDP Crisis: Disciplinary Committee Summons Ortom, Anyanwu, Others

As internal conflicts continue to rock the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party’s National Disciplinary Committee, led by former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, has summoned former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and others for questioning.

In a statement released on Thursday, Ikimi announced that those invited must appear before the committee on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Legacy House in Maitama, Abuja.

The PDP has been embroiled in a deepening crisis since the 2023 presidential election, with accusations of betrayal and misconduct leading to calls for disciplinary action.

In response, the National Working Committee (NWC) set up a disciplinary panel on August 21, 2024, to address complaints and recommend necessary actions.

Despite this, the crisis has escalated, with a leadership tussle between former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye and Senator Anyanwu over the position of National Secretary.

While the PDP Board of Trustees and the Governors’ Forum have endorsed Ude-Okoye, the dispute remains unresolved.

Ikimi revealed that the disciplinary committee has received and reviewed five petitions so far.

While three petitions against top NWC members were set aside to avoid interfering with reconciliation efforts, the committee is proceeding with cases against Ortom, Anyanwu, and others.

“The committee reiterates its commitment to upholding party discipline and fairness,” Ikimi stated, urging aggrieved members to follow due process in addressing their grievances.

Those summoned are expected to appear before the committee along with their petitioners and witnesses.
