Lagos NURTW Launches 3,000 CNG Tricycles Worth N10.2 Billion To Alleviate Transportation Costs

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State has officially launched its first fleet of 3,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) commercial tricycles.

According to reports, it is valued at N10.2 billion, and aimed at addressing transportation challenges in the Lagos.

The initiative was inaugurated by Alhaji Azeez Abiola, the Zonal Chairman of NURTW, on Wednesday in Lagos.

Abiola emphasized that the introduction of these CNG tricycles will significantly reduce transportation costs for residents, alleviating economic hardships.

He stated, “Over 3,000 CNG tricycles have been deployed to the state to ease the cost of transportation among the residents.”

The CNG tricycles are expected to reduce daily operational fuel costs from N15,000 to between N2,500 and N3,000, providing a substantial relief to operators. 

The launch is projected to create over 5,000 new jobs for operators and technicians involved in CNG conversions.

Abiola acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu in facilitating this initiative and called for the establishment of more CNG filling stations to improve accessibility for operators.

Currently, the only CNG station is located at Agidingbi in Ikeja, which poses logistical challenges for tricycle operators in other areas of Lagos.
