WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Ready For Cameroon Battle — Madugu

Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, says his players are prepared to give everything when they face Cameroon in their crucial 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final on Sunday.

The defending champions will take on the Indomitable Lionesses at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, with a place in the semi-finals and qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup at stake.

Madugu said the team understands the importance of the encounter and is determined to produce a strong performance against their long-standing rivals.

“It’s an important match because we all know what is at stake, the ticket for the World Cup. After the World Cup ticket, you have the semi-finals, which will also enable you continue your quest for retaining the trophy,” he said.

“We’ll go in there fully prepared, give it our best and ensure that we carry the day.”

The coach also acknowledged concerns over the Falcons’ defensive performance after they conceded five goals during the group stage.

He said the team had worked on correcting the mistakes that led to the goals and expressed optimism that the defence would improve against Cameroon.

“There can always be a starting point when you don’t concede goals and we’re believing it will start from the quarter-final stage,” Madugu said.

“We have been working to ensure that those mistakes and loopholes that caused those goals are corrected. Yes, we conceded goals, but we equally score goals, so it’s still positive for us.”

The Super Falcons will need to overcome Cameroon to advance to the semi-finals and continue their bid to retain the continental title.
