The controversy surrounding the death and burial arrangements of Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonle Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has taken a new turn as the Oyo State Police Command intervened in a dispute involving his widow, father and close associates.

The police brokered a peace agreement between the parties following allegations of conspiracy, defamation and inflammatory public exchanges that threatened to deepen tensions surrounding the singer’s death.

The intervention culminated in a meeting at the State Police Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, where the parties signed a formal undertaking to maintain peace and end their public disagreements.

According to a statement issued by the Command, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, became aware of the dispute on October 28 and directed those involved to appear before him for mediation.

Those summoned included the deceased’s wife, Mrs Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola; his father, Mr Muniru Olayemi; and associates identified as Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo and Comrade Lawal Ademola Rafiu.

The late singer’s personal assistant and other representatives also participated in the meeting.

The police explained that the intervention became necessary following disagreements over burial arrangements and related matters, which had generated accusations and counterclaims across social media and other communication channels.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the widow, father and other participants signed a peace undertaking before the Commissioner of Police.

Under the agreement, the parties pledged to maintain good behaviour, avoid confrontations and refrain from actions capable of provoking further disagreement.

They also agreed to discontinue public interviews, social media exchanges and publications relating to the dispute.

According to the police, the undertaking extends to their representatives, associates and individuals acting on their behalf.

The Command stated that the parties agreed to stop circulating allegations and narratives concerning the singer’s death and burial through newspapers, blogs, radio and other media platforms.

They further undertook not to sponsor or encourage publications capable of reigniting the controversy.

Addressing those involved, the Commissioner of Police warned that the agreement must be respected by all parties.

He cautioned against exploiting the circumstances of the singer’s death to promote hostility, circulate unsubstantiated allegations or engage in activities capable of disturbing public peace.

The police chief stressed that individuals whose conduct violated applicable laws would face arrest and prosecution.

The Command also appealed to bloggers, journalists and members of the public to exercise caution when discussing the controversy, particularly where allegations had not been independently verified.

It urged those involved to honour the peace agreement and allow the family to address outstanding burial matters without further public confrontation.

The police clarified that the undertaking would not prevent lawful action against any individual found to have committed a criminal offence.
