LlPlateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has declared that there is no vacancy in the Presidential Villa or the Plateau State Government House ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that President Bola Tinubu and himself will secure second terms in office.

The governor also dismissed discussions surrounding a possible opposition coalition, declaring that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the political platform through which he intends to pursue his re-election and mobilise support for Tinubu.

Mutfwang made the declaration on Monday, November 2, 2026, during the inauguration of the APC presidential and state campaign councils in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Addressing party leaders, supporters and campaign officials, the governor maintained that Plateau’s political direction for 2027 had been settled, insisting that the state would align with the ruling party rather than embrace what he described as a rainbow coalition.

“Some people are talking about rainbow, we are talking about a unification movement. Plateau people have decided 2027 to go one direction,” he declared.

“And we have chosen that the wings on which we have chosen to fly in 2027 are the wings of the APC.”

The governor’s remarks signalled his determination to consolidate political support for the ruling party ahead of the elections, as political alignments and mobilisation efforts intensify across the country.

He urged members of the newly inaugurated campaign councils to take the party’s message to communities across Plateau State, stressing that electoral success would require sustained grassroots engagement.

Mutfwang maintained that his administration had initiated programmes and projects that deserved continuity, appealing to residents to support his bid for another four years.

“We are going to the nooks and crannies of Plateau State to solicit their endorsement and approval for a second time in office because the many things we have begun must not be aborted,” he said.

Describing governance as a relay race, the governor explained that his administration was committed to building on existing achievements and ensuring that Plateau State recorded meaningful progress.

According to him, the task of developing the state requires continuity, effective leadership and the determination to complete ongoing programmes.

Mutfwang Unveils Fresh Security Measures

Beyond his political declarations, the governor acknowledged the persistent security challenges confronting Plateau residents, particularly communities affected by violent attacks and displacement.

He assured residents that his administration was strengthening its security response through the expansion of Operation Rainbow and the deployment of additional personnel to vulnerable communities.

Mutfwang disclosed that another batch of retrained Operation Rainbow operatives would be commissioned in the coming week, while at least 800 trained forest guards would be deployed within four weeks.

“Next week, we are going to commission another batch of retrained Operation Rainbow operatives, and within the next four weeks, we are going to deploy not less than 800 trained forest guards,” he announced.

The governor explained that the measures were intended to strengthen security operations, improve surveillance and create conditions that would enable displaced residents to return safely to their ancestral communities.

Plateau State has experienced repeated incidents of communal violence, attacks on rural settlements and displacement, making security a major concern for residents.

Mutfwang maintained that his administration remained committed to restoring peace and ensuring that affected communities could resume their economic and social activities.

Governor Defends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

The Plateau governor also defended the economic policies introduced by the Tinubu administration, arguing that the President inherited a deeply troubled economy that required difficult decisions.

He maintained that the reforms were necessary to stabilise the country’s finances and address longstanding economic challenges.

“The President inherited an economy that was tottering on the brink of collapse, and the reforms were necessary to rescue the country,” Mutfwang stated.

His remarks came amid continuing public concerns over rising living costs, food prices and the economic pressures facing households.

While acknowledging the difficulties confronting Nigerians, the governor argued that the Federal Government’s policy direction was necessary to put the country on a stronger economic footing.

Mutfwang also highlighted measures introduced by his administration to cushion the effects of economic hardship on Plateau residents.

He listed the introduction of metropolitan buses, the revival of intra-city rail services, a 50 per cent reduction in tertiary institution fees and increased student allowances among interventions undertaken by the state government.

According to him, the initiatives were designed to reduce financial pressure on families, improve mobility and expand access to education.

The governor maintained that his administration would continue introducing measures aimed at improving residents’ welfare while pursuing broader development objectives.

‘Plateau’s Zoning Arrangement Must Stand’

Turning to the governorship contest, Mutfwang reaffirmed his support for Plateau State’s political zoning arrangement, insisting that each senatorial district was entitled to two terms in office.

He dismissed suggestions that the arrangement should be altered ahead of 2027, declaring that his administration intended to complete a second term.

“We have a zoning arrangement in Plateau State, and it is two terms per senatorial zone. Those who are saying otherwise should understand that there is no vacancy in the Plateau State Government House,” he declared.

The governor’s comments underscored his intention to seek re-election while appealing to the state’s established political understanding on the rotation of the governorship.

Although Mutfwang expressed confidence in his electoral prospects, the outcome of the 2027 contest will ultimately be determined by voters.

He nevertheless urged APC members to remain united and committed to the party’s objectives, stressing the importance of grassroots mobilisation.

“We must lead from the front. We must go to the polling units, mobilise our people and ensure that we deliver a peaceful and issue-based campaign,” he told campaign officials.

Mutfwang cautioned against abandoning issue-based engagement, urging supporters to conduct their political activities peacefully.

He maintained that the party’s campaign should focus on governance, development and the programmes it intends to pursue.

Reiterating his support for Tinubu, the governor declared that the APC would work towards winning both the presidential and governorship elections in Plateau State.

“We are determined to return President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and myself with resounding victories in 2027,” he said.
