Yemen’s military has held a mass funeral for 75 new recruits killed in a Houthi missile strike on a training camp in Shabwa province, as authorities vowed to pursue those responsible for the attack.
The funeral took place on Wednesday at a football field in south-central Shabwa, where the strike occurred on Monday. Another 200 people were wounded in the attack.
The recruits were reportedly lined up for a training session at al-Alam camp when the missile struck. Senior government and military officials attended the burial, while troops and security personnel carried the coffins of the deceased.
Speaking after the ceremony, Shabwa’s governor pledged to strengthen efforts to protect the province and ensure those behind the attack were held accountable.
According to the governor, the victims were aged between 18 and 20 and were undergoing training to provide security in Shabwa, rather than preparing for combat operations.
The attack adds to the security challenges facing Yemen, where government forces and Houthi rebels have been engaged in a prolonged conflict.
