Tems Sets New African Milestone On Billboard Hot 100

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has set a new record for the longest-charting solo song by an African artiste on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Her hit track, *What You Need*, has spent 30 weeks on the chart after securing another week on the latest ranking, surpassing the previous records held by South African singer Tyla’s *Water* and Nigerian singer CKay’s *Love Nwantiti*, both of which spent 29 weeks on the chart.

*What You Need* currently sits at number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100, having peaked at number 29.

The song has also achieved success on other Billboard charts, reaching number one on both the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Adult R&B Airplay charts.

The latest milestone further extends Tems’ presence on the US music charts, placing her ahead of the two previous record-holders in the solo African song category.
