The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said growing anger against President Bola Tinubu in Northern Nigeria stems from his administration’s failure to fulfil campaign promises.
Baba-Ahmed, however, stressed that the dissatisfaction was not limited to the North, arguing that Nigerians across the country were increasingly frustrated with the president’s handling of national challenges.
He made the remarks on Tuesday while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he attributed the discontent to a perception that Tinubu was not listening to the concerns of Nigerians.
According to the PRP chairman, the president’s failure to deliver on promises to address the country’s problems had fuelled public disappointment, regardless of regional or political affiliations.
“It’s nothing to do with being northern at all. There are a lot of elite, there are a lot of Nigerians who are angry with Tinubu because he’s not listening to anybody,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that Northerners were not uniquely aggrieved by the administration but shared the same concerns as other citizens over its performance.
“I can tell you, the North is not angry with Tinubu because he’s not listening to them. The North is angry with Tinubu like other Nigerians are angry with Tinubu because he came here on the promise to fix a lot of the things that are wrong, and he didn’t,” he added.
His comments come amid intensifying political calculations ahead of the 2027 general election, as opposition figures and other political stakeholders debate the performance of Tinubu’s administration and its implications for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
With economic hardship and other national challenges remaining central to political debate, the president’s ability to convince voters that his policies are delivering results is likely to be a major issue as the next election approaches.
