Lamido Declares War On APC, Vows PDP Comeback In Jigawa

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party will mount a determined bid to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections, accusing the ruling party of dragging the state backwards in critical sectors.

Lamido made the declaration in Dutse during the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council, where he sharply criticised the performance of the current administration in healthcare, education and other essential public services.

He said the opposition party was prepared to restore what he described as Jigawa’s lost momentum in governance and development.

“Unfortunately, Jigawa State has been taken backwards under the present administration,” Lamido said.

“We are determined to restore the state to its rightful position in governance, development, unity and peaceful coexistence.”

The former governor alleged that access to basic healthcare had deteriorated and that educational standards had suffered under the APC administration.

He claimed that hospitals were struggling to provide adequate services while schools continued to decline, insisting that the state required a change in political direction.

Lamido also expressed confidence in the PDP’s leadership, saying the party still possessed the experience and capacity to deliver accountable and people-centred governance.

“The APC administration has failed the people of Jigawa State,” he said.

“Our administration will prioritise the welfare of all residents, regardless of political affiliation.”

The remarks signal an early escalation in the battle for Jigawa ahead of the 2027 elections, with the PDP seeking to rebuild its political base in a state once firmly associated with Lamido’s leadership.

Beyond his criticism of the ruling party, Lamido sought to frame the coming contest around governance, service delivery and the welfare of ordinary citizens.

He said the PDP would conduct its campaign peacefully and urged party members to avoid intimidation, personal attacks and actions capable of heightening political tension.

“Our campaigns will be conducted peacefully, with respect, unity and mutual understanding,” he said.

“Our primary objective is to restore the dignity of Nigeria and Jigawa State.”

The former governor’s intervention comes as political parties intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Jigawa expected to be one of the states where the APC and PDP will test their grassroots strength.

The APC currently controls the state, but Lamido’s renewed involvement is likely to sharpen the political contest and energise PDP supporters seeking a return to power.

His allegations against the APC administration, however, remain political claims made at a party event and were not independently substantiated in the report.

Still, the message from Dutse was unmistakable: the PDP is preparing for an aggressive comeback campaign, and Lamido intends to place governance failures, public services and economic welfare at the centre of the 2027 battle for Jigawa.

As the election season gathers pace, the real test will be whether the PDP can convert Lamido’s political influence and criticism of the incumbent administration into enough voter support to break the APC’s hold on the state.
