Iwobi To The Rescue As Fulham End Winless Run

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi delivered the decisive moment at Craven Cottage on Saturday, scoring the only goal as Fulham edged Ipswich Town 1-0 to secure their first Premier League victory of the season.

The Nigerian international struck in the 33rd minute after a sustained spell of Fulham pressure, drilling the ball home to hand the hosts a badly needed breakthrough in a tense encounter.

For Fulham, the victory brought relief after a difficult opening stretch to the campaign.

Alvaro Arbeloa’s side entered their seventh league fixture rooted to the bottom of the table and still searching for their first win of the season.

Iwobi’s intervention changed the mood.

The 30-year-old midfielder took his chance clinically, giving Fulham a lead they would protect for the remainder of the contest.

Ipswich, newly promoted to the Premier League, pushed for a response but Fulham held firm to preserve the narrow advantage and claim all three points.

The result is likely to ease some of the early pressure on Arbeloa and his players after a winless run that had left the London club struggling at the foot of the standings.

For Iwobi, the goal also underlined his growing importance to Fulham’s attacking play.

The Super Eagles midfielder has increasingly become one of the club’s most influential players in possession, capable of linking midfield and attack while also contributing directly in front of goal.

Saturday’s strike could therefore prove significant not only for his personal confidence but also for Fulham’s attempt to build momentum after a slow start.

The Cottagers will now turn their attention to their next fixture away to Coventry City, hoping the victory over Ipswich marks the beginning of a more positive run.

For now, though, Fulham have their first win — and it came through the boot of Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi.
