Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sounded a stern warning to criminals, declaring that his administration will intensify security operations across the state to ensure that Lagos remains safe for residents and visitors.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday, September 29, after meeting with top security chiefs at the State House, Marina, where he received a comprehensive briefing on security operations and plans to strengthen the state’s security architecture ahead of the busy end-of-year period.
The Governor declared that his administration would not allow criminals to exploit the increased movement and activities expected across Lagos in the coming months.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The meeting comes as Lagos prepares for a surge in human and vehicular movement, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu scheduled to be in the state from Tuesday and several activities lined up for the Yuletide season.
The state is also expecting an influx of visitors as religious, cultural and social events gather momentum towards the end of the year.
Beyond the festive activities, political activities are equally picking up following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that campaigns for the 2027 elections can commence.
Against this backdrop, the Governor’s meeting with the security chiefs focused on reviewing ongoing security activities and strengthening operational preparedness across the state.
Those at the meeting included the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brigadier-General A.O. Owolabi; Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and Executive Secretary, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LASTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan.
Also in attendance were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Hundeyin; and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, Lawal Pedro.
The Governor’s renewed security push signals heightened preparedness by the Lagos State Government and security agencies as the state braces for a packed final quarter marked by increased commercial activity, festivities, visitors and political engagements.
