The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has commenced a three-day digital marketing training for 600 market men and women, small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), young adults and artisans across the state.
The training, themed “From Local Business to Global Market: Leveraging Digital Marketing for Business Growth,” is holding from Monday, September 28 to Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Women Development Centre, Agege, Lagos.
Declaring the programme open, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Cecilia Dada, said digital marketing had transformed the way businesses connected with customers, stressing that business owners could use Android phones to promote their products and reach markets beyond their immediate locations.
Dada urged the beneficiaries to actively participate in the training and apply the knowledge acquired to improve their businesses.
She also disclosed that the participants would receive Android phones on the third day of the programme to enable them take advantage of digital platforms and expand their businesses to wider markets.
According to her, the state government would also provide transportation stipends for participants during the first two days of the training.
The training, facilitated by Liquid Luck Consulting, focuses on practical digital marketing strategies aimed at helping entrepreneurs establish and grow their businesses online.
The facilitators, Folu Abisayo and Chisom Kelvin, took the participants through competitor analysis, WhatsApp Business, creation of business catalogues, professional customer engagement, financial management and online security.
The beneficiaries were also trained on how to identify fake payment alerts and scam messages, while emphasis was placed on the need to separate business funds from personal finances.
The programme also featured sensitisation sessions on domestic violence, skills acquisition and healthy nutrition.
The Director of the Domestic Violence Unit educated participants on how to identify signs of domestic violence and the appropriate steps to take when they witness or experience such situations.
Similarly, the Director of the Skills Acquisition Department introduced the participants to the Ministry’s 19 Skills Acquisition Centres, explaining the registration process and various skills available for interested residents.
The Deputy Director, Women Department, also addressed participants on the importance of healthy nutrition.
Speaking on the impact of the initiative, a beneficiary, Adigwe Jerry, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, saying the training had improved his knowledge and would help him grow his business.
Another participant, Taiwo Halimat Shadia from Alimosho Local Government Area, said she had already gained two followers for her business through one of the digital platforms introduced during the training.
In her vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Rianat Ajibike Onigbanjo, commended the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for supporting programmes aimed at promoting skills development and economic participation.
She also appreciated Commissioner Dada, the directors and management of the ministry, particularly the Director of Poverty Alleviation, Toyin Salami, as well as Liquid Luck Consulting and the facilitators for their contributions to the programme.
Onigbanjo urged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity by putting the knowledge and skills acquired into practical use and leveraging digital platforms to expand their businesses.
