Customs Confirms Fire Outbreak At Western Marine Command In Lagos

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has confirmed a fire outbreak at the premises of its Western Marine Command in Apapa, Lagos.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, September 28, 2026, was detected at about 10:35 a.m. when a fire outbreak was noticed within some offices of the Command.

The Customs authorities said thick smoke was initially observed emanating from the newly constructed conference hall, prompting officers on duty to activate emergency response protocols and commence efforts to contain the fire.

Personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service subsequently arrived at about 11:25 a.m. and successfully brought the fire under control.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, the Acting Customs Public Relations Officer of the Western Marine Command, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, said the fire affected some property and office equipment within the Command premises.

She, however, confirmed that no life was lost and no injury was recorded.

The Command said its core operations remained unaffected by the incident and continued normally.

It also constituted a committee to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.

The Customs Command commended its officers and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for their prompt response in containing the outbreak, while reaffirming its commitment to the safety and security of its personnel and infrastructure.
