TCN Announces Six-Hour Power Outage In Abuja Over Transformer Maintenance

Electricity consumers in parts of Abuja are set for a six-hour power disruption on Wednesday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out scheduled preventive maintenance on a 100MVA power transformer at the Central Area GIS 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

According to a notice issued by TCN management on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the maintenance exercise will run from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

TCN said its maintenance crew would undertake routine preventive checks on the transformer and its associated switchgear as part of efforts to ensure the reliability and operational integrity of the transmission facility.

The company explained that the planned maintenance would affect power supply to several parts of Abuja because the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) would be unable to off-take electricity to customers in the affected areas during the exercise.

Areas listed for the planned outage include Wuse Zones 1–7, Sheraton Hotel, Central Business District, Utako, Jabi and their environs.

TCN said the maintenance was necessary to enable its engineers carry out preventive checks on the critical transmission infrastructure.

The company apologised to electricity consumers in the affected areas for the inconvenience that the planned outage would cause, while indicating that the disruption was part of a scheduled maintenance programme.
