Lagos State University (LASU) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Global Transport Policy Academy to strengthen emotional intelligence, emotional awareness and social consciousness among students and staff of the institution.
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, 6th Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo.
Speaking at the ceremony, LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said the collaboration would help equip members of the university community with critical skills needed to navigate relationships and participate responsibly in society.
Olatunji-Bello stressed that academic excellence alone was no longer enough in an increasingly interconnected world, noting that students and staff also needed self-awareness, empathy, effective communication and the ability to understand and appropriately respond to the emotions of others.
She described the agreement as a significant step towards strengthening human development within the university community and urged both institutions to ensure that the partnership translated into practical, sustainable and impactful programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Chairman of the Global Transport Policy Academy, Segun Musa, for his continued support and contributions to LASU, assuring that the university would sustain its commitments to the collaboration beyond her administration.
Musa: Partnership Will Deepen Human, Social Development
Responding, Musa expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for her leadership and support, describing her encouragement as instrumental to the Academy’s efforts to establish meaningful institutional partnerships.
He said the Academy had expanded its engagements beyond LASU to other government institutions, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, as part of efforts to promote initiatives requiring greater attention to human and social development.
Musa assured LASU of the Academy’s commitment to delivering the objectives of the partnership to a high standard.
The MoU is expected to provide a structured platform for programmes designed to strengthen emotional intelligence and social awareness across the LASU community, while complementing the university’s broader commitment to holistic student development and a supportive environment for staff.
