The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has denied reports suggesting that it has entered into any political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning political actors against dealing with individuals who are not authorised to represent the party.
The party’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, made the clarification in a statement, alleging that some individuals who were no longer recognised within the party structure had been presenting themselves as NNPP leaders and engaging in political discussions without approval.
According to Aniebonam, such activities could mislead political parties, aspirants and other stakeholders seeking discussions with the NNPP ahead of the elections.
He urged interested parties to verify the identity and authority of anyone claiming to negotiate on behalf of the NNPP.
“Anyone who has allegedly paid money to unauthorised persons believing such payments were for nomination or political alliance should seek redress from those involved,” he stated.
Aniebonam maintained that the NNPP, identified by its basket-of-fruits logo, remains an independent political party and is not currently part of any coalition.
“The authentic NNPP is not a member of any coalition. It stands to reason that, as a national political party, we are independent,” he said.
The clarification comes amid ongoing consultations and political movements among parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
The NNPP had earlier distanced itself from the G-100 coalition, with National Chairman Dr Agbo Major stating that the party was reviewing its options before making a final decision on possible future engagements.
However, Aniebonam said the party could announce strategic alliances in the future if such arrangements become necessary.
“The NNPP will announce certain decisions with regard to strategic alliances with any of the political parties for purposes of the 2027 general elections if there is a need to,” he said.
The NNPP founder also identified individuals authorised to speak and make decisions on behalf of the party, naming himself as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Agbo Gilbert Major as National Chairman, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday as National Secretary, and Prince Omokanye Adetoyese as National Treasurer.
He advised political parties, aspirants and other stakeholders to engage only with recognised party officials during discussions involving the NNPP.
The statement comes as political parties continue preparations and negotiations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
