The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council following consultations with stakeholders across the country.
The party said its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have been engaged in discussions with the national leadership over the structure and composition of the campaign council.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., the NDC said Obi and Kwankwaso had been authorised to nominate key officials who will oversee various aspects of the campaign.
The positions to be filled include the Director-General of the campaign council, Deputy Director-General (North), spokesperson, deputy spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director.
The party said the decision was aimed at ensuring inclusiveness, coordination and effective management of the presidential campaign.
The statement read in part:
“Our Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, and his Vice-Presidential Candidate, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, shall nominate the Director-General of the Campaign, Deputy Director-General (North), Spokesman of the Campaign, Deputy Spokesperson, Head of New Media, the Finance Director, Deputy Finance Director and several others in consultation with the party.”
The NDC explained that its presidential campaign structure had already been developed and presented to the candidates for their input, while contributions were also received from other stakeholders.
The party added that campaign funds would be managed through designated officers in line with transparency requirements and provisions of the Electoral Act.
According to the statement, funds raised for the campaign would be paid into the presidential campaign account and jointly managed by officers nominated by the candidates and the party’s national treasurer.
The party disclosed that the inauguration of the campaign council was initially planned for early September but was postponed due to the presidential candidate’s travel schedule.
The NDC also urged its candidates and supporters nationwide to focus on the electoral process and avoid internal disagreements.
“There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC,” the party stated.
The party further directed its state and local government leadership to begin the process of compiling and harmonising lists of party agents for the forthcoming general elections.
The agents, according to the NDC, will be screened, approved by party leadership and trained ahead of election activities.
The committee responsible for coordinating the appointment of party agents is chaired by Comrade Babatunde Alli, Deputy National Chairman (South), with Vin Martin Ilo as secretary alongside other party officials.
The NDC said the process was part of preparations to strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
