Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has mobilised the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) to tackle the worsening traffic situation around Kara Bridge and adjoining sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Abiodun, in a statement on Tuesday on the traffic situation, said the state government had taken note of the challenges confronting motorists and commuters along the strategic corridor.
He said TRACE personnel had been deployed to strengthen traffic coordination, clear obstructions and assist road users affected by the gridlock.
According to the governor, TRACE officials are working alongside relevant security, emergency and traffic management agencies to prevent further deterioration of the traffic situation and restore movement along the affected axis.
The governor stressed the importance of the Kara corridor to residents, workers, businesses and travellers, noting that any disruption on the route has significant consequences for commuters and economic activities.
Abiodun Warns Against Driving Against Traffic
Abiodun appealed to motorists to exercise caution while approaching the affected area and warned them against driving against traffic or creating unauthorised additional lanes.
He said such actions often worsen congestion and could hamper emergency operations.
The governor particularly urged commercial drivers and articulated vehicle operators to exercise restraint and comply with traffic officials’ directives.
“Our immediate priority is to protect lives, maintain order and reduce the inconvenience being experienced by commuters,” Abiodun said.
He assured motorists that the state government would continue to monitor the situation and deploy additional personnel and resources where necessary until normal traffic flow is restored.
The governor also appealed to road users to cooperate with traffic and security personnel deployed to manage the situation, while appreciating commuters for their patience as efforts continue to ease the gridlock.
