Kim Kardashian has been awarded €1 in damages by a Paris court over the armed robbery she suffered in the French capital in 2016.
The amount was the compensation requested by the American reality television star, according to a lawyer involved in the case.
Kardashian and her stylist, Simone Harouche, who was present during the incident, welcomed the court’s decision in a joint statement, describing the robbery as a deeply traumatic experience.
“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition,” they said in a statement to the Associated Press.
They added that they were grateful to the French justice system and everyone who supported them throughout the legal process, expressing hope that they could now move forward and heal.
The court also awarded €1 to Harouche, matching the amount she had requested, while a former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès received €109,516 in damages. The receptionist had sought €550,000 in damages and interest, saying the 2016 jewel heist left him traumatised.
The hotel, where Kardashian was staying when she was targeted, was awarded €50,000.
The robbery occurred on October 2, 2016, during Paris Fashion Week. Two men dressed as police officers reportedly forced their way into Kardashian’s suite, restrained her with zip ties and tape and stole jewellery worth more than $6 million.
Among the stolen items was a diamond ring Kardashian had worn that evening to a Givenchy fashion show.
The suspects became known in France as “les papys braqueurs”, or “grandpa robbers”, because several of them were in their 60s and 70s when they were tried.
A Paris court convicted eight people last year over their roles in the robbery, on charges including armed robbery, kidnapping and gang association. However, none returned to prison because they had already served time in pre-trial detention, and none appealed the verdict.
Following their conviction, Kardashian said the incident had been the “most terrifying experience of my life” and left a lasting impact on her and her family.
She also said she remained grateful to French authorities for pursuing justice, adding that she believed in accountability and hoped for healing for everyone affected by the case.
