Nigerian socialite and entrepreneur Tiamiu Abdulrahman Kayode, popularly known as Rahman Jago, has broken his silence over the reported detention of his friend, Poco Lee, in the United Kingdom, insisting that there may be more to the case than has so far emerged publicly.
Poco Lee, whose real name is Iweh Odinaka, is reportedly being held on remand in the UK in connection with an alleged assault offence and is expected to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court in London in September.
Reacting to the development, Rahman Jago expressed concern over the dancer’s situation and appealed to members of the public to avoid exploiting the controversy for social media attention while the legal process runs its course.
He said his knowledge of Poco Lee made it difficult for him to accept conclusions being drawn from reports circulating online, adding that his friend needed support at what he described as a painful period.
“Seeing my brother go through such a serious and painful situation is heartbreaking,” Rahman Jago said.
“I know the person he is, and I truly believe there is more to this situation than what people may have heard. This is not the time to chase clout.
“We all know Poco to be a joy giver and this is when he needs us the most. May we never be in a situation where only God is our witness.”
His intervention comes amid growing public attention surrounding reports of Poco Lee’s detention, which began circulating online on August 19.
The controversy intensified following allegations attributed to rapper Ms Jorji, who accused Poco Lee of attempting to sexually assault her and a friend.
The allegations remain claims that have not been established by a court, and details surrounding the circumstances of the reported offence remain limited.
Poco Lee has not been convicted of any offence, and the allegations against him remain subject to judicial determination.
Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of a Nigerian community organisation in the United Kingdom, had earlier confirmed that the dancer was on remand and expected to appear in court.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” Kuti said.
He also disclosed plans to attend the proceedings to provide support to the Nigerian entertainer as the case progresses through the British judicial system.
Kuti had urged members of the public to respect the principle of presumption of innocence and allow the court to determine the facts surrounding the allegations.
Rahman Jago’s statement has now added another dimension to the growing reactions from Poco Lee’s friends, associates and fans, many of whom have taken to social media to express concern over the entertainer’s situation.
Poco Lee is one of Nigeria’s prominent dancers and hypemen and has worked with several leading figures in the country’s music and entertainment industry.
With speculation continuing to swirl around the case, attention will now shift to the forthcoming court proceedings, where further details surrounding the allegations and Poco Lee’s legal position are expected to emerge.
