The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, at the age of 66.
Hassan reportedly died on Sunday after battling cancer, days after his family disclosed his health condition and appealed for support.
A video circulating on social media showed his daughter, Kira Taiwo, breaking down in tears as she announced her father’s death.
“My daddy is dead,” she was heard repeating in the emotional video.
The actor’s daughters, Kira and Haleemah, had earlier revealed that their father was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and said the family was exploring treatment options.
Hassan was one of the prominent figures in the Yoruba movie industry, where he built a decades-long career and became widely recognised for his roles in Nigerian films.
His death is expected to trigger an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry.
