Halimat Omidina, daughter of late Yoruba comic actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has revealed that her father told her he would die just two days before his passing.
Halimat made the disclosure on Saturday while marking what would have been the actor’s 68th birthday.
In an emotional post on X, the model and content creator said the anniversary brought back memories of her father and the celebrations that usually accompanied his birthdays.
“Happy posthumous birthday, Daddy. Today feels so different, no crowd, no jollof rice, no you in your new shirt,” she wrote.
She said she regretted not holding him closer when he spoke about his death.
“I wish I made more memories with you and hugged you tighter when you told me you’d die. May Allah have mercy on you and grant you Jannatul Firdaus,” she added.
Halimat later disclosed that Baba Suwe had specifically told her he was going to die two days before his death, but she dismissed the statement as a joke.
“Someone asked if Daddy ever told me he was going to die. Yes, he did. Two days before, he told me, but I laughed it off. I thought he was joking,” she said.
According to her, she received a call the following day asking her to return home after his condition worsened.
“The next day, I got a call to come home. He couldn’t talk anymore, and an hour later, he passed,” she recalled.
Baba Suwe died on November 22, 2021, at the age of 63.
The veteran actor was one of the most recognisable comic figures in the Yoruba film industry, featuring in popular productions including Iru Esin, Baba Londoner, Oju Oloju and Baba Jaiye Jaiye.
Halimat is also the daughter of late actress Omoladun Omidina, popularly known as Moladun, who died in 2009.
Her tribute drew emotional reactions from fans who remembered Baba Suwe’s contribution to Yoruba cinema and sympathised with his daughter.
For Halimat, however, one memory remains especially painful — the warning she thought was a joke but which became reality just two days later.
