JUST IN: Tinubu Presides Over First FEC Meeting Since June 29

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the State House, Abuja, the first council session since June 29, 2026.

The meeting formally began after the President arrived at the Council Chamber at about 2:30pm, with proceedings opening with the national anthem.

In attendance were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Didi Walson-Jack; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Ministers, presidential aides and heads of federal agencies were also present at the meeting.

Before deliberations commenced, the council observed a minute’s silence in honour of two former federal ministers who recently died.

The first was Abubakar Alhaji, a former Minister of Finance under the military administration of Ibrahim Babangida, who died on July 30, 2026.

FEC also honoured Prof Turner Isoun, who served as Minister of Science and Technology during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He died on July 15, 2026.

Wednesday’s meeting is Tinubu’s first FEC session in more than seven weeks.

At the previous meeting on June 29, which itself came after a break of more than two months, the President swore in two new Federal Commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission shortly before the council began its deliberations.

The commissioners were Amina Gamawa, representing Bauchi State, and Abdullahi Mukhtar, representing Kaduna State.

The Federal Executive Council, chaired by the President, is the highest policy-making body of the Federal Government and considers major proposals, contracts and policy decisions brought before it by ministries and agencies.

Details of the decisions reached at Wednesday’s meeting were yet to be released at the time of filing this report.
