The Federal Government has inaugurated a Presidential Task Force on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) preparedness, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining Nigeria’s zero-case status and strengthening early-response systems across the country.
Speaking at the inauguration on Thursday at the State House, the Chief of Staff to the President and Task Force Chairman, Femi Gbajabiamila, said Nigeria’s approach must remain preventive rather than reactive.
“We do not want a repeat of what happened during the last outbreak,” he said, stressing the need for stronger preparedness structures.
He added that there are currently no reported Ebola cases in the country, noting, “All hands must be on deck to ensure that preventive measures are prioritised rather than curative measures.”
Gbajabiamila also expressed confidence that Nigeria could take a leading role in Africa’s epidemic response, saying, “We will not follow; we will lead.”
