Nigeria Unveils Multi-Agency Alliance To Fast-Track Digital Economy Innovation

In a major move to position Nigeria as a frontier for safe and rapid technological advancement, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has officially inaugurated a high-powered Technical Working Group (TWG) to spearhead a collaborative framework for innovation governance.

The initiative, launched at NITDA’s headquarters in Abuja, unites key regulatory bodies under a single umbrella with the goal to dismantle bureaucratic silos, strengthen collaboration among regulators, and co-create an agile governance model tailored for the fast-evolving digital economy.

Speaking on behalf of NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, the Acting Director of Standards, Guidelines, and Framework, Barrister Emmanuel Edet, stressed that traditional, rigid regulations can no longer keep pace with the velocity of modern technology.

“Effective regulation must balance robust oversight with the critical flexibility required for innovation to thrive,” Edet stated, emphasising that regulators must collectively pivot to address the unique challenges of the digital frontier.

The National Regulatory Sandbox will provide a safe, multi-agency environment to test innovative solutions, promote regulatory learning, and inform policies that support technological advancement while protecting public interest.

The TWG is expected to break down institutional silos, strengthen collaboration among regulators, and create an enabling ecosystem that accelerates innovation, economic growth, and national development.
