The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, has released 279 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results that were previously withheld over suspected examination malpractice, even as it vowed to sustain its crackdown on fraud and irregularities in the nation’s tertiary entrance examination system.
In a statement issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, the Board disclosed that the newly released results followed painstaking investigations into allegations of malpractice and suspicious activities recorded during the examination process.
The Board explained that while some candidates were cleared after investigations found no prima facie evidence against them, others were not as fortunate, with several results already cancelled where culpability had been firmly established.
“The release follows ongoing investigations into cases of suspected examination malpractice. While some results have been outrightly cancelled where evidence of malpractice was established, others have been released where the Board found no prima facie case against the affected candidates,” the statement said.
JAMB further revealed that results from centres flagged by its live monitoring team for suspicious activities, as well as centres linked to adverse reports, would remain under lock and key pending the conclusion of investigations.
The examination body warned that any candidate found guilty after the ongoing probe would face outright cancellation of results, underscoring its determination to protect the integrity of the UTME process.
“Results from centres where the Board’s live monitoring team observed suspicious activities, or where adverse reports were received, remain withheld pending further investigation. Where sufficient evidence of culpability is established, such results will be cancelled,” Benjamin stated.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of examination malpractice across the country, with education stakeholders demanding stricter measures to curb technological cheating, impersonation and organised fraud syndicates allegedly infiltrating public examinations.
JAMB advised candidates whose results are still being withheld to verify their status by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the same telephone number used during registration.
The Board insisted that the ongoing screening exercise is aimed at ensuring only credible results are released while preserving public confidence in Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process.
