A temporary pause in hostilities has been reached between Israel and Lebanon after United States President Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire agreement between both countries.
Trump said the truce followed “excellent” phone discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, adding that it would take effect Thursday evening (US time).
He noted that senior US officials have been directed to work with both sides to build toward a more lasting peace and confirmed plans to host the leaders at the White House.
Lebanon welcomed the development, describing it as a long-sought demand, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the ceasefire as a relief.
The agreement comes amid broader US efforts to ease regional tensions linked to the Israel–Iran conflict, as fighting in Lebanon has caused heavy casualties and mass displacement in recent months.
